Entrepreneurial Spotlight: Charlotte Morley of The Little Loop
We are incredibly proud to highlight the inspiring journey of a Great British Entrepreneur alumni Charlotte Morley, the visionary behind The Little Loop, the UK’s first rental marketplace for kids' clothing. Charlotte’s story is a powerful example of how innovation and determination can turn challenges into opportunities, even in the face of fundraising difficulties.
You may recognise Charlotte as she made history being the first Dragons' Den victor to get DOUBLE her investment request by asking Steven Bartlett (another Great British Entrepreneur alumni) to pitch in another £70,000 after securing Deobrah Meaden's backing.
However, the life of a founder is never as plain sailing as TV may make it out to be. Two years ago, Charlotte set out to raise £1.5 million to scale The Little Loop but faced numerous setbacks with traditional VC funding. Despite having all the right ingredients—traction, proprietary technology, and a clear market need—she was met with resistance from VCs who either wanted more traction or weren’t ready to invest in consumer businesses. But Charlotte didn’t let these obstacles deter her. Instead, she pivoted, turning to incremental Angel investments and securing around £270k, along with a £90k grant.
This funding allowed The Little Loop to make significant strides, including launching new tech and positioning the company as a leader in the secondhand kidswear market.
Charlotte says:
“In just 1 year since we dropped the big raise ambition, we've become THE leading startup in a mega space...secondhand kidswear. We're stealing market share from Vinted AND the high street every day because we've created a unique proposition which combines affordability, convenience and sustainability. And gives a platform to great brands”.
In a space dominated by giants like Vinted, The Little Loopstands out by combining affordability, convenience, and sustainability, offering a unique proposition that’s gaining market share daily.
In her recent LinkedIn post, Charlotte candidly shared her fundraising journey, providing invaluable insights for other founders. She highlighted the importance of resilience and creative thinking when traditional paths seem blocked. Charlotte’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact that focused, incremental growth can have, even in highly competitive markets.
